Preferred Interaction Styles of Introverts

Every introverted personality type as described by the Myers-Briggs Type Instrument (MBTI) leans towards an interaction style or a preferred way of communication. Imagine if you understood the best way to approach your loved ones or even your colleagues based on their personality type. Imagine if people around you went the extra mile to understand your preferences. Communicating wouldn't be such a hard thing to do! This is your first step towards effective communication that will help you in every aspect of your life, personal and professional.

There are 8 Introverted Personality Types according to Myers-Briggs revolving around Sensing and INtuition; Thinking and Feeling; Judging and Perceiving personality traits. You can check out each one in more detail here. Linda Berens is a psychologist and typologist who developed the Interaction Styles Module. The 8 introverted personalities are divided into two groups:

1- Behind-the-Scenes Interaction Style (INFP, INTP, ISFJ, ISFP)
This group of introverted personalities has a passion for gaining every little piece of information they can. They want to make the best decision possible and won't stop until they do, so eyeing things out for knowledge is their specialty. In order to reach their perfect result, they have an understanding that listening to various points of view and other people's contributions to the matter is crucial. When they approach you, their quietness and calmness are obvious, but you will notice their firm opinions when they do speak out. They tend to be quite patient in general. They will revise and revisit things to make sure everything is perfect, which would require patience from your end as well.

2- Chart-the-Course Interaction Style (INFJ, INTJ, ISTJ, ISTP)
The second group of introverts possesses a slightly different approach when it comes to communication style. When these personalities have a specific goal in mind, they will focus all their energy on achieving it, focusing only on the way to get there. They usually have one target at a time and it takes all their energy and deliberation. It's useful to know when dealing with them that they like to know where they're heading and how to reach it or start their path towards it. You will notice their tension, which fuels their analyzing and outlining of things they want to achieve. If things are unplanned and disorganized, they will quickly lose interest. They are very detail-oriented, so rushing them is not a good communication strategy

The upcoming post will break down the remaining two groups which outline the preferred interaction styles of extroverts. If you still don't know your personality type, you can take the free online personality test now. Here are 5 Benefits to Knowing Your Personality Type you should check out.
