It's not easy being an empath. You constantly feel like your senses are heightened and on edge with feelings and problems that most of the time are not ever yours to process. While empaths absorb other people's emotions as their own, they can just as easily absorb all the negativity and fear in the world. Living through a global pandemic will surely not make things any simpler. 

There are many types of empaths and it's very eye-opening when you find out which one you are. Your mind could even be wired to be a mix of more than one type. The next step is figuring out how to avoid compassion fatigue, the downside of experiencing too much emotional empathy for someone or something. 

The trick is to take care of yourself a little more and build a sort of balance in your life. There are a few things you can do continuously to achieve that. You might think they are too simple, yes, but they work. So, how do empaths recharge? Here are 5 secrets for empaths to unwind and recharge their energy:

1. Meditate
Meditation helps you zone out of your surroundings and truly find peace. As little as 5-minute meditation sessions and deep breathing exercises will help recharge your batteries in no time.

2. Exercise
Exercising is not just about losing weight or staying fit in general. Exercising regularly is the key to releasing negative energy from your entire body. Don't think too much about how accurate your exercises should be or about the duration of your workouts. Overthinking it will not get you starting. Just go with it. You could even start to exercise in the form of dancing to your favorite motivating tunes.

3. Eat Healthy Food
It doesn't have to be a strict diet to a fault. You just need to choose wisely what you eat and you will notice your energy levels as an empath thanking you for it. Fresh fruits and veggies are the obvious choices. Make a decision to let go of the junk food and find fun ways to make your own healthy smoothies every day.

4. Say No
As an empath you probably have a hard time saying no to people, especially loved ones. On one side we have that deep need to please everyone and help them as best we can, but on the other, we tend to neglect ourselves in the process. We forget that we need our energy for ourselves too. You have to keep in mind that it's really okay to decline to help or listen to someone's troubles at a given time if you don't feel up to it. 

5. Reward Yourself
Empaths don't really have a strong suit when it comes to remembering to reward themselves or pamper themselves for that matter. So, always think about what makes you happy whether it's cooking a meal for yourself, indulging in a sea salt bath, or going to the movies. Your choice will definitely make you feel a lot better and raise your energy levels in the process.

Being an empath is a gift, but you also have to remember that you cannot really pour from an empty cup. Recharge for yourself first and then you can be there for those who need you.
